Hi, i'm a new lefthanded member and wanted to ask if anyone has ever heard that being born lefthanded was due to a traumatic childbirth?
I have always been told that is the reason i was born a lefty.

dying

so, there have been studies done that prove we die sooner. there have been studies done to prove the opposite. i'm wondering where YOU think we fit in.

some of the studies that show we die sooner were debunked because they concluded that out of 100 80 yr. olds, only 1 was lefthanded. could that be due to fascism of long ago when they made everybody right handed? or is it becuase they died sooner?

in this day and age, we aren't discouraged to use our left hand the way they were 20, 50, 100 years ago.

or...could it be that we are such enigmatic people that there is a secret society plotting to rid the world of us? (mwuahahahaha!~)

what say the lefties?!?!?!

Just curious...

Any body else out there who was born favoring one hand & was cajoled into changing? My parents were not exactly getting along anymore when I was born, & the story from my family goes that I was using my left hand to grab toys, myself, etc. Since my Mom didn't want me to be left-handed like my Dad, she kept forcing me to change to my right, like her. When I was growing up, it was seen as more difficult to grow up left-handed & should be avoided. I remember my cousin Todd was picked on by teachers, students, everyone in grade school for being left-handed.

So now it seems I'm very ambidextrous (not a bad thing...) but have usually used my left side when trying new things. My chiropractor told me that he thinks it can be damaging to not use the side you naturally were given, so I've been slowly working toward switching back.

Any other weirdos, freaks out there with a story like this, & how did it work for you? Incidentally, I'm about equal in the artist/science geek realms, but can be slow sometimes to understand certain things until I get it, usually by example, it's like a light switch going on when I do. I couldn't tell time until I was much older than my peers, but was ranked in the top 2% in the nation in math skills as a kid. ???????????

I'm dying of curiosity, never met another like me in this yet. You out there?

So what influence do you all think being lefthanded have on your mind/persona?

Seems to me there are some aspects of being left handed that influence the way we percieve, or experience things, and therefore how we process them.

for example, which eye do you use to look through a camera?
i shoot with my right eye, which is directly connected to the left hemishere of the brain, which is supposed to be more visual, lyrical, artistic....

any thoughts?

My mother has always said that I "lacked" common sense, but even as a child I was considered very "technical". I attribute this to being left-handed. I wonder if any of my left-handed bretheren and "sistas" were labeled as such?

Do our brains actually work differently?

just curious ... do any of you find yourselves often having to explain to a group of people (you don't know well enough), before you sit down at a dinner table, that you'd prefer the end seat so you don't constantly keep poking your neighbour with your elbow while you're eating ?
